Falling From a Golden Sky
I have a little treat for you, my newsletter subscribers.
A free short story connected to the world of The Prophecy of the Yubriy Tree.
The story is available through bookfunnel as an epub. Or you can read it directly online. Use the bookfunnel link below to access the story.
Here’s the blurb.
“Falling From a Golden Sky” is a 5,000 word short story set in the world of The Song of the Burning Heart. When twin brothers of a noble lord are forced to fight against each other in the twin-death rite, their father goes to great lengths to learn the secrets of the Yubriy tree in the hopes of saving his sons' lives. Will the dragon that recently roosted on a nearby mountaintop play a part?
This story marks the beginning of a tale that is connected to The Prophecy of the Yubriy Tree, although the connection might not be obvious at first. I wrote “Falling From a Golden Sky” while writing The Prophecy of the Yubriy Tree, so it’s been finished for some time. The story sheds light on some of the mysteries of Kalandragote, where a large part of Book Two takes place.
After writing “Falling From a Golden Sky,” I wrote a second short story entitled “The Love-Blind Priest” that I considered releasing as well. Ultimately, I decided to wait. I feel like the story needs a little more work. Told together, the two stories explain the origin of the ‘book with the blue boards’ that plays an important role in The Prophecy of the Yubriy Tree. Observant readers will begin making the connection after reading “Falling From a Golden Sky.”
If you’re worried that these short stories are keeping me from writing Book Two, don’t be. The stories were 95% finished before I ever began writing Book Two, which, for the record, is coming along smoothly. Book Two is the only thing on my writing plate at the moment, and I intend for it to remain that way until the book is finished.
In case you weren’t aware, I also have a novella entitled Last Performance at the Three Dragons Inn that is available to newsletter subscribers. The novella tells the backstory of Shayla the woods witch, who features prominently at the end of TPOTYT. If you’re not a subscriber, sign up, and you’ll receive a link to the novella in your welcome email.
Alright, gang, that’s it for now! Happy reading!
