I’m pouring my heart and soul into this project, and I like to think it comes across on the page. Check out the early reviews for the book over on Goodreads. Thank you to everyone reading this newsletter who took the time to read an ARC of the book and share their thoughts on NetGalley, Booksirens, Goodreads, and Instagram. I can’t tell you how much some of the reviews have meant to me. Also, if you’re one of the aforementioned ARC readers, thank you for doing everything you’re doing to support the fantasy fiction community.
Where is the paperback edition of the book, you might ask? For reasons known only to Amazon, they approved the book’s cover for the hardcover and ebook editions but decided to deny the cover for the paperback edition. This despite the fact that it’s the exact same cover. They may reverse the decision any second now, but, for the moment, it’s still in limbo. Having planned for the book’s release for months, I did everything in my power to make sure there wouldn’t be any snafus, but it was not to be. I’m choosing to see it as a positive: there will be a separate hardcover and paperback release! I hope you will consider purchasing the hardcover and adding it to your bookshelf. Catrina Barquist’s artwork is sublime; her aesthetic truly captured the feel of the book.
I’ve added quite a few subscribers to the newsletter this month. Going forward, the newsletter will focus on revealing secrets of the world of The Song of the Burning Heart, as well as providing pertinent updates on the series. I have a lot of surprises in store.
Over on my socials, I’ve started a series of “I write epic fantasy” posts. Starting as quick little writing exercises, they’ve turned into a fun way to flex my writing muscles outside of my WIP. I’ve written about twenty so far, and I intend to share them over the coming months. Below are the first two.
I write of the dragon that flies east at dawn, racing on great leathery wings toward the fiery genesis of existence, a twin to the same life-force burning deep within its hungering gullet. I write epic fantasy.
I write of the forgotten heroes and heroines, the ones erased by history's cruel pen. I write of the great sacrifices they made in the margins while the world shrugged and slept. I write epic fantasy.
Alright, that’s it for now! Happy reading!
I just started it and loving it so far!
